Stump Grinding Bundaberg — Professional Stump Removal

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our stump grinding services in Bundaberg.

How much does stump grinding cost in Bundaberg?

Most residential stumps cost between $100-$300 depending on size, wood hardness, and access. We offer discounts for multiple stumps on the same property — the more stumps you have, the lower the per-stump cost. Call us for a free quote.

How deep do you grind the stump?

We grind stumps to 200-300mm below ground level, which is deep enough to turf over, plant a new tree, or build a garden bed on top. If you need deeper grinding for construction purposes, just let us know and we can accommodate.

What happens to the stump grindings?

The grinding process produces wood chip mulch. We can spread it over the hole and surrounding garden beds as free mulch, or remove it entirely and backfill with soil — your choice. Most customers keep the mulch as it breaks down naturally and enriches the soil.

Can you grind stumps in tight access areas?

Yes. Our compact stump grinder fits through standard gates as narrow as 750mm and can work in confined spaces between fences, buildings, and other trees. If we can walk to the stump, we can almost certainly grind it.

How long does stump grinding take?

Most residential stumps take 15-45 minutes to grind, depending on the diameter and wood hardness. Hardwood stumps like ironbark and spotted gum take longer than softer species like pine. A typical property with 2-3 stumps is usually done within 1-2 hours.

Will stump grinding kill the roots?

Stump grinding removes the above-ground stump and the major root ball. The remaining roots in the soil will naturally decay over time. For species that sucker from roots like figs or coral trees, we can grind deeper to reduce the chance of regrowth.

Can I plant a new tree where the old stump was?

Yes. Once the stump is ground out and the wood chips are removed, you can backfill with quality soil and plant a new tree in the same spot. We recommend waiting a few weeks for the soil to settle before planting.

Is there a best time of year for stump grinding?

Stump grinding can be done year-round in the Bundaberg climate. However, the drier months from April to October are ideal as the ground is firmer and access is easier. After cyclone season is also a busy time as many people have storm-damaged trees that need stump removal.

What can I use instead of a stump grinder?

Alternatives to stump grinding include chemical stump removal, manual digging, or burning. Chemical removal involves drilling holes and pouring potassium nitrate, but it takes 4-6 weeks to soften the stump and still requires physical removal afterwards. Manual digging works for small stumps but is extremely labour-intensive. Burning is not recommended in the Bundaberg region due to fire risk regulations, and it leaves a large hole. Professional stump grinding is the fastest, cleanest, and most cost-effective option — most residential stumps are done in under an hour with no mess left behind.

Do I need council approval for stump grinding in Bundaberg?

In most cases, no. Stump grinding on private residential property does not require council approval in the Bundaberg Regional Council area. However, if the tree was protected under a vegetation management order, or if you are on rural land with vegetation clearing restrictions, you should check with council before removing the stump. We can advise you on this during your free quote — just let us know the circumstances and we will point you in the right direction.

Do you check for underground pipes and cables before grinding?

Yes, always. Before we start, we check the stump and surrounding area for any underground services like water pipes, irrigation lines, and electrical cables. This protects your property and our equipment. For services we cannot see, we ask what you know about the site and proceed carefully.

Are you insured, and will grinding damage my lawn?

We are fully insured, so your property is covered while we work. Stump grinding is contained to the stump itself and the immediate area, so the rest of your lawn is unaffected. There will be a patch of mulch and soil where the stump was, which is easily turfed or planted over.

Do you cut down the tree as well, or just the stump?

We specialise in stump grinding — removing the stump after a tree has already been felled. If you still have a standing tree, you will need a tree lopper or arborist to take it down first, and then we come in to grind out the stump. We are happy to point you in the right direction.

What access do you need to get the grinder in?

Our compact grinder fits through gates as narrow as 750mm, so a standard side gate is usually enough. We need a clear walking path to the stump free of major obstacles. For stumps in completely enclosed courtyards or upper levels, give us a call and we will work out whether access is possible.

Can you grind a stump close to my house, fence, or pool?

Yes. Our grinder is designed to work in tight spots right up against fences, walls, and pool surrounds. We take care near structures and check for any services or footings. Grinding is often the only practical way to remove a stump in these confined positions.

Can I get a quote for several stumps at once?

Definitely. The more stumps you have on one property, the lower the per-stump cost, since we are already set up on site. Send us a rough idea or a few photos and we will give you a single fixed price for the whole job.
